Actor, comedian, and “Daily Show” Latino correspondent Al Madrigal will host and report a one-hour primetime special for Fusion on the power and influence of the booming Latino community in America. The special will air this fall in advance of the 2014 midterms (airdate TBA).
Starting next month, Madrigal will travel across America to capture a unique portrait of the many facets of Hispanic culture and life in the U.S. He will be joined by Fusion correspondent Romina Puga and a number of other special guests and luminaries.
“Al has the ability to tackle important topics and breakdown stereotypes in a way that is both enlightening and entertaining,” said Fusion CEO Isaac Lee. “Comedy is the currency for Fusion’s audience and there is no better person than Al Madrigal to help us shine a bright light on the growing influence and impact of the young Hispanic community."
"I’m delighted to carry on in the tradition of the great reporters like Edward R. Murrow, Ernie Pyle, and Geraldo Rivera to probe vitally important issues of the day starting with whether I’m Hispanic or Latino,” Madrigal said.
The special produced by Fusion will be overseen by Fusion Chief Programming Officer Billy Kimball and David Javerbaum (former executive producer of “The Daily Show”).
With more than 15 years as a stand-up, Al Madrigal has found success as an actor, correspondent and podcaster as well as on the live stage. Madrigal stars as Andy, a thoroughly whipped stay-at-home dad, alongside Minnie Driver and David Walton in the hit NBC comedy, About A Boy, (Tuesdays 9/8c). And since 2011, Madrigal has filed regular correspondent pieces on the Emmy Award winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His 2013 hour-long stand-up special, Why Is the Rabbit Crying, premiered on Comedy Central to rave reviews and is now available as a CD, DVD and download. On October 1, 2012, Madrigal and Bill Burr launched the All Things Comedy network (ATC), a podcast and video network founded, owned and operated entirely by comedians. On ATC, Madrigal and fellow comedian Maz Jobrani host Minivan Men, a weekly podcast for regular people with children.
