Fusion today announced Microsoft will sponsor the network’s “Soccer Gods” broadcast during the World Cup. The Microsoft Surface will be an integral part of the “The Soccer Gods: Brazil 2014” daily broadcast.

George Quraishi, the co-founder and editor of the popular soccer quarterly Howler, has joined Fusion as Senior Editor of the network’s World Cup coverage. Fusion Investigative Correspondent Mariana van Zeller will examine topics ranging from the drug wars happening in the Amazon to Brazilians who are protesting due to bad public services, high cost of living, government corruption and what they see as excessive spending on mega events like the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Fusion will air a special day of programming, ’Fusion 420/360,’ on Sunday, April 20 beginning at 12:00 p.m., ET. Kicking-off its return for the fall season, the “Soccer Gods” will hit the road and head to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game in Denver. This special episode of “Soccer Gods” will take place as part of the programming of MLS at Skyline Park in Downtown Denver. Fusion Expands Soccer Gods Team with New Additions

Below is an official transfer release outline the new additions to Fusion’s Soccer Gods team who will be running SoccerGods.com.

Fusion today announced the loan signing of Jimmy ‘Conradinho’ Conrad from KickTV. The former U.S. international and current Faux Journalist Extraordinaire will host The Soccer Gods for three weeks (Oct. 20 - Nov. 3).

Conrad was recently inducted into the Sporting Kansas City hall of honor and dubbed himself The Most Handsome Man in U.S. Soccer History. Now, he attempts to fill the butt warmth on the couch left behind by Nando Vila, who is in Los Angeles hosting Midterm Mayhem.

Additionally, in what experts are calling the fifth-cheapest transfer in soccer history, The Soccer Gods announced the signings of Richard Farley, Miriti Murungi and Kevin Brown. The three will join the team in Miami, pending medicals.

The signings will add strength in depth to The Soccer Gods’ roster as they look to make a run up the table (and onto your screens, your life, and, later, your heart).

The three cited a life-time ambition to join the 11-month-old network.

“I’ve been a boyhood fan of Soccer Gods ever since I heard they were offering money,” Brown said. Brown (@friendlyfaux) signed for an undisclosed amount from his old team, Unemployment FC.

“I have no idea what Kevin was up to before this, but I thought he was pretty funny on Twitter,” Nando Vila, VP of programming at Fusion and co-host of The Soccer Gods, said.

“What’s Twitter?” asked Simon Carr, the other co-host of The Soccer Gods and also apparently its executive producer.

Murungi (@nutmegradio) signs full-time after a successful loan spell with Fusion during the World Cup. He leaves behind the lucrative attorney business to blog about soccer on the Internet, for some reason. “Miriti could live-tweet a joint-session of congress on housing policy and it would be funny,” Vila said.

Farley (@richardfarley) will oversee a host of freelancers examining the mesh of soccer and culture, and probably making silly puns. “We come for the badge, stay for the viewers and readers. Every keystroke, every sound bite, will be about the supporters,” Farley said. “I promise to give 110 percent every day. Except weekends.”

Farley most recently wrote for NBC and the Guardian, but before that held lead editing roles at Fox Soccer and SB Nation.

“Richard seems to understand this Internet thing, which apparently is here to stay,” Carr said.

FUSION Recognized with Polk Award for Contributions to Historic Panama Papers Investigation

Long Island University (LIU) has recognized FUSION, along with the partner organizations working with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, with a George Polk Award for its reporting on the Panama Papers. The investigation is being recognized in the financial journalism category.

The Panama Papers marks one of the largest investigations in journalism history with more than 100 media partners and 400 journalists collaborating on the reporting. The papers are a trove of leaked documents from inside Mossack Fonseca, a Panama-based law firm that creates offshore companies to hide financial activities of the rich and powerful. A leak to Germany’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung of 11.5 million documents involving 210,000 companies was shared with CPI’s International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which coordinated investigative work with media partners such as McClatchy, FUSION, The Guardian, Le Monde and others.
